Vincent D. Reynolds, MBA, PE Reinforced concrete structures are those that will be subjected to submergence, wave action, chemically contaminated atmosphere, and severe climatic conditions. Typical hydraulic structures are stilling-basin slabs, concrete-lined channels, floodwalls, and spillway piers among others. Reinforced concrete hydraulic structures should be designed in accordance with ACI 318. This manual studies the concrete stress-strain relationship and yield strength of grade 60 reinforcement as given in ACI 318. This course will provide design with procedures and their applications. Several examples are given to enhance understanding of the material. This three-hour course will examine the strength and guidance for designing reinforced-concrete hydraulic structures by the strength design method. Several design methods will be presented along with detail requirements and design examples. This course is intended for structural engineers, hydraulic engineers, geotechnical engineers, environmental engineers, project managers, military engineers or anyone with an interest in designing reinforced concrete hydraulic structures. The course materials are based solely on the engineer manual Strength Design for Reinforced Concrete Hydraulic Structures as found on the website of the Army Corps of engineers. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public.
