Ground Improvement and Structural Support Solutions (Live Seminar)

Dennis Boehm and Brian Freilich, Ph.D., PE

Mixed-use and multi-story project sites typically require earth retention (excavation) systems and/or foundation improvement as part of the construction sequence. Earth retention may be needed to construct below grade levels or allow access to below grade mechanical/vault systems. Foundation improvement is needed to increase allowable bearing or reduce settlement for column and wall loads. The structural engineer has many options for site improvement and excavation support, making selection of the appropriate system difficult. This presentation will provide a background for understanding and case histories of the available systems, including ground improvement, deep foundations, and earth retention systems options.

Keller North America provides a wide range of geotechnical engineering and construction services to improve soils in place and to both construct new and rehabilitate foundations. The techniques that will be discussed include Compaction & Jet Grouting, Earth Retention and Shoring, Vibro Compaction & Replacement, Micropiles, Soil Mixing for Deep Basement Excavations, and Pile Driving. Within our range of services, a Ground Modification solution is generally available for the toughest subsurface conditions.
