Jet Grouting and Soil Nailing (2-Hour Live Webinar)

Lucian P. Spiteri, PE & Joel R. Clark, PE

Jet grouting uses high energy jets to erode the soil and mix it with a binder, typically cement. During this process it creates in-situ geometries of soil-cement known as soilcrete. Jet grouting is a very adaptable technique because it can be used across many soil types, to target specific zones of treatment and can creates various geometry sizes and shapes.

Soil nailing uses grouted, tension-resisting steel elements (nails) to reinforce in situ soils and creating a gravity retaining wall for permanent or temporary excavation support. It is typically a top-down system, when excavation is required (as opposed to fill being required). Soil nailing is commonly used for the stabilization of slopes and landslides, support of excavations, and the repair of existing retaining walls.

This presentation will review the technique basics, general engineering principals and operational details of these techniques.

Keller North America provides a wide range of geotechnical engineering and construction services to improve soils in-place and to both construct new and to rehabilitate foundations. The techniques that will be discussed include Compaction & Jet Grouting, Embankment Stabilization & Excavation Support, Vibro Compaction & Replacement, Micropiles and Pile Driving. Within our range of services, a Ground Modification solution is generally available for the toughest subsurface conditions.
