Electric Power Conductors: Volume I - Electrical Characteristics

Lee Layton, PE

This 3-hour course explains the electrical properties of conductors used in overhead line construction in the electric utility industry. The course describes the materials used and how to calculate DC and AC resistance, inductive reactance, capacitive reactance, and sequence impedances. Both static and dynamic conductor rating calculations are explained. The Fault current capability of a conductor is also shown. This course is the first in a series on utility conductors.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
