H. Wayne Harper, PE The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was created by the United States Congress in 1971 as a federal agency in the Department of Labor. OSHA's mission is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health. To help establish safer workplaces, OSHA regulations for general industry (29 CFR 1910) stipulate required employee training for 29 topics, as applicable to the specific work environment. This course focuses on the responsibilities and training requirements pursuant to 29 CFR 1910.1200 chemical hazard communications, which covers all employees exposed to hazardous chemicals regardless of form; liquids, solids, gases, vapors, fumes, and mists. OSHA considers the provisions of the hazard communications standard to be very important. This is evident by the fact that infractions of 29 CFR 1910.1200 regulations frequently rate in the top ten OSHA issued violations for recent years. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD. Specific course topics that are on the borderline and are not acceptable by the NY Board have been noted under the course description on our website. |
